Venice
A disastrous holiday!
A crazy holiday to Venice! To start with I couldn't find my hotel - took 6 hours of searching with locals to track it down (squirrelled away down a back alley). I was almost locked out of my room for the first night, a nice couple let me into the reception of the hotel at midnight (unmanned of course), which was good as I was contemplating sleeping rough. Got into my room - two beds, one on which I put my luggage which promptly fell to bits. Just as well... it was infested with bed bugs! My room had a shower which doubled up as a toilet. I had a separate living room, in which was a half assembled cooker - filthy. My room was NOTHING like the pictures on the hotel's website. What a dive! Decided to let some sunlight into my room the next day, so I pulled my curtains back... to reveal a brick wall! Went exploring and found that I was close to NOTHING, not a single restaurant, so had to go further afield to eat (no food provided by the hotel) and got lost once or twice. Not a very pretty bit of Venice, I must say. When it was time to leave, I got on the water taxi to the airport… which skipped the airport entirely! Several more wrong turns and I EVENTUALLY got to the airport, just in time to catch the plane! But wouldn’t you know it, I tripped and broke my toe! Really caught up with me on the plane. Oh and by the way, on the last day a nice family showed me their room in the hotel - night and day! Tidy, modern, very comfortable. I'd been assigned a melon! Never again!
